New Zealand’s multiple Group One performer, Wyndspelle, will transfer to Australia at the end of the current season to stand at historic Cornwall Park Stud at Toolern Vale, just outside Melbourne.
Wyndspelle (2013) - Ifrraaj x Western Star (High Chaparral) is currently beginning his third season at GrangeWilliam Stud, South Taranaki, where he stands alongside champion Verry Elleegant’s sire, Zed. At the completion of the season Wyndspelle will transfer to Cornwall Park where he will be given several months to settle into his new environment before the commencement of the 2023 season.
Wyndspelle competed with distinction against the best horses in Australia and New Zealand from 2 to 6 years old. He began as a 2yo (second in the G1 Diamond Stakes) then stepped up as a Guineas winner over 2000m at 3 before seven G1 placings (including twice beaten only by the legendary Melody Belle). He capped off an injury free career as a 6yo winner of the G1 Captain Cook Stakes.
Wyndspelle’s Stakes performances include:
G1 Captain Cook S 1st
G2 Waikato Guineas 1st
G1 ARC Diamond S 2nd
G1 WRC Thorndon Mile 2nd (twice)
G1 Otaki Maori RC S 2nd
G1 Hawkes Bay Tarzino S 2nd
G1 VRC Cantala S 3rd
G1 Windsor Park Plate 3rd
G2 Waikato James & Annie Sarten Memorial S 3rd
“We're absolutely delighted to have secured Wyndspelle to stand at Cornwall Park from 2023,” commented Peter Boyle, Principal of Cornwall Park.
“He’s got a wonderful race record with multiple Group One performances on both sides of the Tasman; he raced at the elite level from 2 to 6 years old and remained injury free; his courage and will to win made him a crowd favourite and his yearlings are absolutely cracking types and he has a strong pedigree that’s free of Danehill.
“He ticks all the boxes to be a success in Australia and will be a wonderful addition to Victoria’s stallions ranks.” he added
Wyndspelle co-owner Jen Campin, who purchased Wyndspelle as a yearling, said Cornwall Park Stud had won the race for the stallion after other studs in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland had expressed interest in the stallion.
"To have secured Wyndspelle a position at stud in Australia, where sales and prize money are at record levels, is a testament to his Group One accomplishments, his pedigree, temperament and the very high quality of progeny he has left so far that will be hitting the sales ring in just a few months in both Australia and New Zealand,” she said.
“We were blessed to have a horse give so much of himself over so many years at the top level and I’m not ashamed to say I absolutely love him for so many reasons. Here I am living the dream and here he is with his courage, his soundness all those years, his personality and his good looks – I mean what’s not to love about all that!
“And it’s a lovely piece of serendipity that he’s going to be located less than an hour’s drive from his courageous Group One performance in the Cantala Stakes at Flemington,”
