NZTR (New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing), in conjunction with the Canterbury Jockey Club, the Wellington Racing Club and the Auckland Racing Club has today announced the introduction of a:
·$1 million bonus for any horse that wins all three of New Zealand iconic staying events (NZ Cup, Wellington Cup and Auckland Cup) for this season;
·$250,000 bonus for any horse that wins any two of New Zealand three iconic staying events (NZ Cup, Wellington Cup and Auckland Cup) for this season;
"New Zealand breeds some of the best middle distance and staying horses in the world and the stayers' bonus series reflects our industry's continued commitment to our iconic staying events in New Zealand", Chief Executive Greg Purcell said.
The Canterbury Jockey Club has extended the First Late Nomination deadline for the $225,000 Group 3 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup until 12 noon on Friday, 2 October.
Nominations close for the $200,000 Group 2 Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup on Tuesday, 10 November at 4pm and for the $500,000 Group 1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup on Monday, 16 November at 4pm.
Last week, NZTR and the Asian Pattern Committee approved the Wellington Cup reverting from 2400 metres to the traditional distance of 3200 metres for its upcoming renewal on 23 January 2016.
