Triple black-type winner Inflamed (NZ) (Ghibellines) has been retired and will join the White Robe Lodge broodmare band, with resident sire Alflaila selected as her first mating.
Bred and raced by Brian and the late Lorraine Anderton and trained by Brian in partnership with his son Shane, Inflamed won nine of her 37 starts and $377,810 in stakes.
The daughter of Ghibellines enjoyed a career-best season as a six-year-old, winning five races headed by the Gr.3 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m), Listed Great Easter Stakes (1400m) and Listed Stewards’ Stakes (1200m).
“We were thinking about covering her and putting her back into training for another go, but in the end we decided that she’s probably done enough,” White Robe Lodge manager Wayne Stewart told RaceForm.
“She can go to Alflaila, and a mare that’s performed as well as she has will be a great addition to his book.
“She’s done a fantastic job on the track, especially last season which was a real breakout year for her.”
Inflamed is out of the multiple stakes-winning Gallant Guru mare Ortem Fire (NZ) and comes from a successful White Robe Lodge family that includes Gr.1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) winner Smokin’ Romans (NZ) (Ghibellines).
She will be among the second book of mares for Alflaila, who stands at White Robe Lodge for $7000+GST.
The son of Dark Angel won seven of his 13 starts, headed by consecutive editions of the Gr.2 York Stakes (2100m), along with the Gr.3 Darley Stakes (1800m), Gr.3 Strensall Stakes (1800m) and Listed Pomfret Stakes (1600m).
Alflaila covered 110 mares in his first New Zealand season, with his first foals due this spring.
“He had great support in his first season, and his book is shaping up really well again this year,” Stewart said.
“Now we’re just waiting to see his first foals. We’re really looking forward to seeing the types of foals that Alflaila is going to leave.”
