ACT MP Ken Shirley, one of five speakers at the NZTBA Waikato's Election 2005 Seminar seminar next week
Senior List MP Ken Shirley has replaced Deborah Coddington as the ACT speaker at next week's Election 2005 Seminar organised by the Waikato branch of the NZTBA. Mr Shirley is the Party Whip, spokesperson on Foreign Affairs & Trade and Associate spokesperson on Commerce. He will join the present Minister for Racing Hon. Damien O'Connor (Labour), Rt. Hon. Winston Peters (NZ First), Sue Bradford (Green) and Lindsay Tisch (National).

NZTBA Waikato president Vicki Pascoe reports enormous interest in the seminar which will be held on Thursday 16 June at Te Rapa Racecourse at 7.00 pm.

She says, "It's also pleasing to see our industry's campaign making front page and mainstream television news. It's important for the general public to understand that we are not asking for a handout. We simply want consistent taxation principles applied
to the total gaming sector."

Graeme Hansen, chief executive of the New Zealand Racing Board, has confirmed that Trackside will not film the seminar. However, mainstream TV news teams will be there, and NZTBA Waikato has arranged video and audio recording of the event. The Racing Board chairman Warren Larsen has accepted the branch's invitation to attend the seminar.

The NZTBA has prepared five questions which have been sent to the five politicians by seminar chairman Judge Tony Ryan. Each MP will have two minutes to reply to each question and, once they have completed their presentations, questions will be taken from the floor. Questions should be framed with care and heckling will not be tolerated.
