Prince of Brooklyn's arrival this week at Grassyards Farm near Dunedin will mark Mosgiel couple Jason Coutts and Charlotte Young's first foray into the stallion business.
Coutts negotiated the purchase of the son of Magnus with the help of New Zealand Bloodstock and Gavelhouse.
"I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to stand such an outstanding type, with both sprinting and staying blood in his pedigree," Coutts said
He is out of the Zabeel mare Tristabeel, whose seven foals all have been winners. Foremost among those is brother Duke of Brunswick, the winner of seven races.
Unbeaten at two, Prince of Brooklyn won the Gr.3 National Stakes at Morphettville on debut from the leading Caulfield stable of Mick Price and he ended his juvenile season with further success in the Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill.
He was lightly tried the following season with his best performance a runner-up finish in the Creswick Series Final. He continued racing as an early four-year-old career with a victory at Caulfield before finishing second to subsequent Group One winner He's Our Rokki.
Injury then curtailed Prince of Brooklyn's career as the winner of three of his 10 starts, with a further four placings.
"He is an outstanding type," Price said. "He's 16.2 hands, has great bone, strong feet, he's correct, has a big hindquarter and is a beautiful mover."'
As part of the breeding agreement, Prince of Brooklyn's Australian-based owners will send mares to the stallion, who will stand for $3000 + GST. – NZ Racing Desk.
