The NZTBA has recently completed Stage 1 of its plan to upgrade its website, with the launch of its new online NZ Studs & Stallions database.
Last week the NZTBA Council decided to offer free listings in the database to all NZTBA members, not only the studs who advertise in the annual Stallion Register. Members wishing to take up this offer are invited to contact NZTBA website editor Susan Archer for details of the information required for a listing.
Susan says "The Studs & Stallions database is consistently among the most popular sections of the website, and is well-established as a comprehensive and up-to-date source of key information about New Zealand stallions and studs."
"However, the Council recognises the need to keep improving the database, and to make it the very best source of core data about the New Zealand breeding industry. Hence the decision to include breeders other than studs and stallion owners."
The Association commissioned its web designers, Julia Orlova and Pavel Orlov of Fora Web Development and Design to re-design and expand the database.
Susan says, "Julia and Pavel are well-recognised within the New Zealand thoroughbred industry for the quality and value of their work, and their excellent understanding of the industry's particular requirements. They've worked with us since 1998 and continue to provide an outstanding professional service to the Association and its members."
Features of the new database are:
* New Stallion Search functions
- by stallion's sire, region & fee range, as well as stallion name
* History & News fields for stallions & studs. This allows the inclusion of information such as recent stakeswinners, best horses bred, premierships & awards, notable sale results and current season updates.
*Inclusion of past & dead stallions, as well as current sires, under each stud listing.
* PDF versions of the pedigree pages for stallions advertised in the 2005 Stallion Register will be added next month.
The Council has now approved Stage 2 of the website upgrade programme, after consulting branch committees and online visitors about their preferences. This involves substantially re-working the design, architecture and navigation of the site, and will be completed early next year.
Susan explains "The on-screen look of the Studs & Stallions database will also be part of that work. In the meantime we've opted for a simple and very functional design."
