The schedule for this year's Bomac Lecture Series has now been changed, to allow for New Zealand Bloodstock's re-scheduled Broodmare Sale on 6 August. The Series will be held as follows:

The horse's foot is the focus of this year's Lecture Series, presented by the New Zealand Equine Research Foundation and sponsored by Bomac Laboratories.
Lead Speaker is Professor Chris Pollitt, Professor of Equine Medicine at the School of Veterinary Science, University of Queensland, where he's developed an international reputation in the field of diseases of the horse's foot. He is accompanied by leading Australian farrier Richard Hansen and between them they will discuss and bring you up to date on conditions of the horse's foot and their practical management.
Professor Pollitt is a veterinary graduate of Massey University who went into practice in New Zealand, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland before commencing his Ph.D studies at the University of Queensland. To focus his research on "Laminitis" he created the Australian Equine Laminitis Research Unit, at the University of Queensland, where he currently supervises eight postgraduate students.

In 1997 he was inducted into the American Farrier's International Hall of Fame for his contribution to education on the horse's foot and in the same year he received the RIRDC (Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation) Vetsearch Equine Research Award as Equine Researcher of the Year. In 2003 he received the Pfizer Scientific Award.
Richard Hansen is an accomplished Australian farrier based in Queensland. He has 17 years experience as a full time farrier and his special interest is therapeutic hoof care. His work includes developing methods of providing mechanical support for the laminitic horse as well as other lameness conditions. He achieves this by means of various applications that combine his forging skills with the use of modern acrylics.

Richard is President of the Australian Farriers and Blacksmiths Association Inc. (A.F.B.A.) and a current member of the American Farriers Association. He has been awarded the state championship High Point Award in each state of Australia, was the 2004 Australian High Point Champion and has been a finalist in the 2003 World Blacksmithing Championships in Calgary, Canada. Richard has also judged many farrier competitions in both Australia and New Zealand.
