The Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association are delighted to announce that once again, New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance will be the Premier sponsor for their annual awards evening to be held on Friday, 4th September 2009 at the Ellerslie Events Centre.
"The Auckland Branch is extremely grateful of the support given to us by New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance," said Branch President David Moore. "Jim Bruford and his team do a wonderful job in servicing the needs of countless breeders in the Australasian industry and they also play a major role in supporting the industry through their sponsorship endeavours," he said. "We are very lucky to have their support."
"We have had a long association with the Auckland Branch of the NZTBA and many of our clients are those breeding the very horses that are honoured at these dinners," said Jim Bruford of New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance. "We all know how difficult it is to breed a racehorse that can make it to the track let alone win a black type race so when breeders get that dream result, it is nice to be a part of it in some way," he said.
The awards evening will honour 16 horses bred in the Auckland area to have won Group races in the 2008/2009 racing season, among them six Group One winners. "Auckland breeders can certainly hold their heads high on the world stage with Group One winners in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong in the past season," said David.
The Auckland Branch is well known for their innovation, responsible for the Stallion Expo and the advent of the Sunline Trust which awards the annual International Management Scholarship. Four years ago the branch introduced the concept of a guest speaker at their annual awards dinner, attracting the likes of John Messara and Steve Brem in the past. 2009 will see Trevor Lobb, currently Racing Manager for Darley Australia and, President of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, as the guest speaker. Trevor is possibly best known for his leading role in the era of Bob and Jack Ingham's Woodlands Stud operation. "We are very grateful to Trevor for accepting our invitation and I'm sure with his long tenure in the industry, his experience at Woodlands and now, his new position with Darley Australia, he will offer some great insight into a number of industry issues and I'm sure there will be a few interesting stories to be told as well," said David.
The New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Awards will be held on Friday 4th September at Ellerslie Racecourse. Every person to buy a ticket will go in the draw to win a free team entry to the NRM/Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Golf Day to be held at Clarke's Beach on Friday 20th November 2009.
