Between 20-22 May the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade conducted a stud tour for Ambassadors and High Commissioners from many of New Zealand's major trading partners to Taranaki and the Waikato.
The purpose of the study tour was to familiarise the diplomatic corps with areas of New Zealand many of them would not otherwise get to see outside of their usual work in Auckland and Wellington. One of the key goals of the study tour was to showcase the local economy in the regions visited. On the 21 May the NZTBA arranged for the party to visit Waikato Stud and view the stallions. Our thanks to Mark and Garry Chittick who gave an informative talk about the history of the stud and how it operates. Michael Martin delivered an overview of the NZ thoroughbred industry in general from an international perspective which they all found highly informative.
