Kiwi Equine Artist earns International Award

For the second year in a row Waikato-based equine artist Barbara E Lewis has triumphed over international competition in the prestigious American Academy of Equine Art's 2010 Fall Open Juried Exhibition, held this year in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Following on from her success in the 2009 exhibition, where the artist was awarded the Leonard J Meiselman Memorial award for Painting for her work "Beau Zam, a Posthumous Portrait", Lewis has again scooped the Meiselman award, along with the Jean Bowman Memorial Award for Painting for her work "Ladies In Waiting."

Executive Director of the American Academy of Equine Art, Frances Clay Conner noted that "this year there were over 400 entries, some from as far away as New Zealand, all competing for about 65 gallery spaces. As a result the quality of this year's show is particularly outstanding, with a varied and interesting mix of styles and techniques."

The exhibition is being held at the Scott County Arts and Cultural Centre Gallery in Georgetown, Kentucky approx. five miles from Kentucky horse park where the Equestrian games are being held in September/October 2010. The exhibition itself runs from 18th Sept to 22nd Oct. The show can be viewed online at:
