The CMWO branch of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Association invites you to join us for a breeding educational evening in the Phar Lap Room at Riccarton Park on Friday, August 13th.
The evening will feature a selection of industry experts speaking on a range of issues and practices relevant to both commercial breeders and owner/breeders. We encourage anyone with an interest in breeding to attend, all are welcome, it promises to be a highly informative evening!
There will be a free drink for members on arrival, and a cash bar for non-members. Drinks from 6:30pm, speakers start at 7pm.

1. DEAN HAWTHORNE (Bloodstock Agent)
- Yearling conformation and selection – what’s forgivable, what’s not
Dean has an extensive background in the industry from studwork to breaking-in to buying yearlings. As manager of Johnathan Munz’s GSA Bloodstock he has forged a reputation as one of Australasia's best judges purchasing as yearlings outstanding gallopers such as Super Seth, Ferlax and Toffee Tongue.
2. LIBBY BLEAKLEY (Highden Park)
- Raising young stock and preparing them for sale with a boutique operation
Libby operates Highden Park outside of Palmerston North with husband Sam and has experienced a huge amount of success with their graduates producing the likes of Werther, Ping Hai Star, Toffee Tongue. etc.
3. SAM TAYLOR (Racehorse vet RVC)
- A layman's explanation of commonly used drugs and procedures used during the stud season
Sam is a partner in the progressive Rangiora Veterinary Centre in North Canterbury. The practice now boasts a world class equine surgery with resident surgeon.
4. GUS WIGLEY (Studmaster)
- How to photograph and video a yearling for on-line sale
With a background in marketing, Gus has owned Inglewood Stud with his wife Bianca for the past 10 years, presenting yearlings for sale both in New Zealand and Australia.
5. ANDREW BAILEY (Reproductive vet at RVC)
- Common issues with foaling
Andrew is a partner in the progressive Rangiora Veterinary Centre in North Canterbury and has extensive experience with troubled foalings.
