Established in 1948, the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (NZTBA) was formed 'to encourage, promote, advance generally and ensure co-operative efforts in all matters pertaining to the production and improvement of the thoroughbred and the interests of thoroughbred breeders.'

This mantra is still the guiding force behind the association today, which has a membership base of around 2,000, spread among eight regional branches plus overseas members.
Some of the key initiatives undertaken by the NZTBA include representing the industry on matters including:
  • Bloodstock Taxation
  • Lobbying ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation)
  • Health & Safety regulations
  • Equine Health & Biosecurity Issues
  • Equine Research
  • Training and Education opportunities
  • Working with Government
Additionally the NZTBA administers the hugely successful NZB Insurance Pearl Series, which encourages owners to race fillies and mares which will eventually be bred from. The NZTBA also oversees a number of scholarships as we look to up-skill the next generation of industry leaders .
