| Established on its present site in 1975, Cambridge Stud has enjoyed more than two decades of ascendancy among New Zealand studs, largely thanks to Sir Patrick's shrewd leadership, and two extraordinary stallions, SIR TRISTRAM and his son ZABEEL.
Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan have won the New Zealand Breeder of the Year title four times: 1995, 1996, 1997 & 2004.
In 1991 Sir Patrick won the New Zealand industry's award for Outstanding Contribution to Racing Excellence. He also served as President of the NZTBA from 1993 to 1996, and is now a Life Member of the Association.
In 2005 Sir Patrick was inducted as an Associate into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. In March 2006 he became an inaugural inductee to the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame.
The Hogans' great matron EIGHT CARAT (GB) (Pieces Of Eight-Klairessa) was New Zealand Broodmare of the Year in 1995, 1996 and 1997. In 1996 she was named Broodmare of the Year by the international journal Owner-Breeder (USA).
Eight Carat won her fame as the dam of an astonishing five Group One winners: OCTAGONAL and MOUAWAD (by Zabeel); KAAPSTAD (Sir Tristram); MARQUISE (Gold And Ivory); and DIAMOND LOVER (Sticks & Stones).
She is also the maternal second or third dam of a further seven Group One winners: champion 3yo DANEWIN (Danehill); EMERALD DREAM (Danehill); DON EDUARDO (Zabeel); VIKING RULER (Danehill); VISCOUNT (Quest For Fame), and the now deceased mares TRISTALOVE (Sir Tristram) and SHOWER OF ROSES (Zabeel). In April 2006 Tristalove extended the diamond dynasty a generation further when her grandson DE BEERS won the Rosehill Guineas G1.
Octagonal, bred, raised & sold by Cambridge Stud, won ten Group One races and is Australasia's fifth highest stake-earner with prizemoney of $A5.8 million.
Yearlings sold by Cambridge Stud over the past two decades at the New Zealand National Yearling Sale Series include more than 25 individual Group One winners.
And in February 2006 Cambridge Stud headed the NZ Premier Sale vendor list (by aggregate sales) for the 25th - yes, 25th - consecutive year. - April 2006 |
