Marju has been represented in 2005-06 by G1 MARJU SNIP & G3 HIGH CEE in Australia where his progeny earnings this season are close to $A1 million; and by Viva Patica in Hong Kong where his progeny have earned $HK18.6 million this season. That's placed Marju in 3rd place on the Hong Kong general sires' premiership, behind Danehill & Zabeel. - June 2006
History
It was fitting that the last stallion to stand at the famous Ra Ora Stud, before its final dispersal in 2001, should be a well-bred, well-performed, proven sire who has continued to build his stud record since 2000. From his single NZ-conceived crop of 63 foals - not large by today's standards - Marju has now left three SW: G2 MAGNETISM, G3 BURNING SANDS and G3 HIGH CEE. New Zealand can also claim the Group One winner he conceived the following season in Australia, MARJU SNIP (Australasian Oaks), because she was foaled here. In all, Marju has now left 35 SW (5.3%) from 656 foals of racing age. They include seven G1 winners, notably the champion mare SOVIET SONG & 1995 Hong Kong Horse of the Year INDIGENOUS. Bred by Pat O'Brien at Kilcarn Stud, Marju was sold for 440,000 guineas as a yearling and, as a year-younger half-brother to champion filly SALSABIL (both from the fine racemare and outstanding broodmare FLAME OF TARA) attracted considerable attention as a 2yo, being touted as a 2000 Guineas prospect in some quarters. He didn't win the Guineas, but did win the Royal Ascot St James' Palace S. G1 and run second to champion Generous in The Derby G1. Marju shuttled to New Zealand in 2000. - June 2006
