NZ-breds have won 30 of the past 57 Melbourne Cups (up to & including 2015).
In all New Zealand-breds have won 43 Melbourne Cups;
19 of them have also been owned in New Zealand.
The first New Zealand-bred winner of the Melbourne Cup was MARTINI HENRY (1883).
The first NZ-owned winner was APOLOGUE (1907).
The first NZ-bred, -owned & -trained Melbourne Cup winner was SASANOF (1916).
