The 2006 yearling parade season continued today in glorious weather at Haunui Farm, Auckland.

Established by Geoff and Peg Chitty in 1955, Haunui Farm is now managed by their grandson Mark Chitty, with the support of his wife Sara, and parents Ron and Carolyn. The Stud is justly proud of the longstanding friendships it has nurtured with several leading private breeders, and the 33 stakes performers it has bred, reared and/or sold in the past three years.

That list is headed by three 2005 Group One winners: Railings (MRC Caulfield Cup, AJC The Metropolitan), who was bred by Haunui in partnership with Noel Robinson; Underwood Stakes & Doomben Cup winner Perlin, bred by Bill & the late Teresa Hurlstone; and ARC Easter Handicap winner Calveen, bred and raced by Don & Rochelle McLaren.

Marketing consultant Shannon Taylor, and New Zealand Bloodstock's Guy Mulcaster introduced Haunui's 40 yearlings for the New Zealand Premier, Select and Festival Sales. They are all a credit to the skills and hard work of yearling manager Luke Geddes and his team.

Resident sire Don Eduardo (Zabeel-Diamond Lover by Sticks and Stones) also paraded and made a strong impression with his excellent balance of masculine strength and quality. Sold by Cambridge Stud for an Australasian record price of $3.6 million at the 2000 New Zealand Premier Sale, Don Eduardo won five of his 18 starts, including the AJC Australian Derby G1. As a four-year-old he ran third to champion Northerly in the VRC Australian Cup G1 and MRC Underwood Stakes G1, and took his earnings to $A1.6 million.

Don Eduardo has 29 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2006: five Premier, 19 Select and five at the Festival Sale. He has already had a colt from Dame Clay sell for $A55,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Sale.

Haunui Farm sold 45 yearlings at Australasian sales in 2005, achieving an average price of more than $65,000. The stud's top price last year was $A250,000 for the Zabeel-Pleasure filly, sold on behalf of Don & Rochelle McLaren at the Australian Easter Sale.
