The New Zealand Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme (TBS) is the Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme introduced to New Zealand in 2004 with the support of the New Zealand Racing Board (NZRB), New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR), the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (NZTBA) and New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd (NZB).
NZTBS bonuses are available on the majority of three-year-old races, except Group races, selected races for two-year-olds and a series of races which can be won as four-year-olds. Each crop is able to compete for approximately 180 bonuses.
The Bonuses are set at two different levels:
an A Bonus is worth $15,000 and a B Bonus is worth $7500.
These Bonuses benefit all participants by providing increased racetrack returns and increased investment opportunities for owners and breeders.
The scheme has been designed to benefit all owners, trainers and breeders of thoroughbred horses racing in New Zealand. Bonuses will be available throughout all regions of the country.
