The major New Zealand sire premierships are still decided on a purely financial basis ie by total progeny earnings, despite the adoption of other methods of stallion performance assessment in other parts of the world.  

In a well-researched and clearly written article prepared especially for the NZTBA online, Association member and owner-breeder Renee Geelen applies her analytical skills to making the case for the Average Earnings Index (AEI) and Comparable Index (CI) as alternative, or at least addtional, measures of stallion performance.
