Ethereal (1997 f. Rhythm-Romanee Conti by Sir Tristram),
the 31st New Zealand-bred winner of the Melbourne Cup in the past fifty years.
She was bred and raced and by Peter and Philip Vela and trained
by Sheila Laxon, who became the first woman
to officially train the winner of the Cup.
Queenslander Scott Seamer was the successful jockey.
